A PR is a Personal Record
Volunteers must complete a background check and Safe Sport certification training through USATF.(https://www.usatf.org/safe-sport) At least one parent per family is encouraged to register as a volunteer.
No. We work with athletes where they are and help them develop their full potential.
Athletes must sign up with the Rainier Beach Track Club - which is a member of United States Track and Field (USATF). This allows athletes to be covered by liability insurance for training and meets. In addition to the USATF registration, athletes will be required to pay for a uniform to compete in meets.
1. RBTC Membership: $65 (plus processing fees) per athlete for each season.
2. USATF Registration: $35 (plus tax) per year (required for insurance and liability)
3. Competitive USATF Races (7 and older): Typically $10–$20 per race, due the week prior
(Competition is optional, but we’d love to have a big team showing at every meet to support teammates—it makes the experience more fun and encouraging for everyone!)
We understand that the uncertainty in days for practices may impact your athlete’s ability to participate. The USATF payment is non-refundable, however, should you choose not to participate once we solidify practice days, we will refund your Rainier Beach Track Club costs of $65 (less processing fees).
Parents of athletes 9 and younger must stay on site. All parents are welcome to remain and assist coaches as needed—it’s also a great way to build community.
Athletes should dress in layers (e.g., sweatshirt, jogging pants, shorts, and a t-shirt) and bring a water bottle and appropriate running shoes.
Yes! For insurance purposes, all youth athletes—whether they compete in meets or not—must have an active membership with USA Track & Field (USATF).

Track spikes are racing shoes with replaceable spikes on the soles for maximum traction, aiding in acceleration from start to finish of a race. They are designed for performance, not comfort, and regular running shoes are used most of the time during practice and training.
Please consult with the coach before purchasing if you think spikes may benefit your athlete. The spring track meets the team participates in, allow ¼-inch pyramid spikes, but always check with your athlete's coach.
We believe finances should never prevent an athlete from joining our club. We offer a need-based scholarship fund to help offset costs.
While we are unable to cover the cost of USATF insurance, we do not want the $65 club registration fee to be a barrier.
If you need financial assistance or would like to set up a payment plan, please reach out to us at rainierbeachtrackclub@gmail.com—()we're happy to work with you!
If you want to try running spikes, first talk with your coach to see if you are ready for them. Local stores such as Big Five or Jack and Jill are good places to start. You may also go online to find running shoes.
There will also be a Track Shoe Swap at the end of practice (date TBD).
Please ensure you provide accurate information to the coaches, such as your email and phone number. We use TeamSnap to keep our athletes and families informed. Please be sure to download the app (https://www.teamsnap.com/mobile)after you have registered your athlete.
Yes, practice will be held rain or shine. However, if there is thunder, practice may be canceled or end early. Athletes must come dressed appropriately for the weather. We recommend wearing layers to stay comfortable.
Coaches work with athletes to identify suitable events. Athletes are encouraged to try a variety of track and field events to broaden their experience.
Athletes are expected to attend at least two practices per week. Please notify your coach if you will miss a practice.
The team is developing a new approach to our meet structure. This will include a duel meet approach where athletes will compete in an organized structure with other USATF clubs in the region. The meets are a way for athletes to perform in race-like conditions, learn to compete and improve their individual performances.
